3 Ways to Make Technology More Effective and Safe While Traveling

This summer, do you plan on getting away from the office for a bit? If so, we have some technology tips for you to help you stay safe and secure while on the go. Here are three ways you can prepare for travel with the right technology.

Make Sure Your Devices Are Travel-Ready

This section mostly has to do with international travel, but some of this should apply to more general travel, too.

First, consider the data roaming plans that your current provider offers, as the last thing you want is to find yourself wanting while in an unfamiliar location. You’ll also want to consider the different types of power outlets and voltages, being prepared with an adapter or converter as needed. Furthermore, be sure to download any important online content that you might need, like maps, documents, and so on; just in case you can’t access the Internet.

If you take these steps now, it should prevent annoying and unexpected charges and connectivity problems while on your travels.

Cybersecurity is More Important Than Ever

If you’re traveling, you need to be especially careful. We recommend you implement a virtual private network, or VPN, for a secure connection to your business’ resources while on the go. Double down on security with strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication on all accounts. All the same security tactics we usually recommend also apply here, so don’t let your guard down more than you would otherwise, regardless of how many margaritas you’ve had on the beach.

When all else fails, too, you should be prepared with backups of your data, just in case you lose a device or it gets stolen.

Stay Charged While Traveling

You want to know what’s frustrating? When your battery runs out of juice right when you need it most.

This is why we like to recommend you keep multiple chargers with you while traveling, just in case you leave one behind by accident. Also, you should invest in a power bank or two to guarantee that you always have access to a charging station while traveling. There are plenty of great options out there, all with varying amounts of energy storage, so pick one that makes the most sense for you and your specific needs.
